To culminate our study of immigration and better understand Rifka Nebrot's story (Letters from Rifka), BPY Fourth Graders visited Ellis Island today. The class left from Liberty State Park and took the ferry to Ellis Island. On Ellis Island, we visited some amazing exhibits. We saw passports from dozens of different countries, luggage, clothing, and religious articles from all different cultures. We looked at pictures from the first immigrant neighborhoods, schools, and factories in the United States. We also spent time viewing exhibits on the many different ships that sailed into Ellis Island from all around the world. One of the highlights of the trip was the beautiful boat ride, where we saw up close the breathtaking "Lady Liberty." Special thanks to our amazing and enthusiastic parent chaperones: Noemi Sobel, Simi Rubenstein, and Catherine Brown.
